My favourite from these examples from the city of Carlisle in Cumbria is the fire point one given at the end – I’ve started to see these small and until now, unnoticed metal plates, everywhere I go. I think it’s the compact simplicity of the design along with the way the metal has corroded and coloured with the elements that appeals. I don’t know the age of construction but they seems to have something of the 1930s about them in the set of the lettering and the use of the sans serif. Is anyone out there a fire point sign geek who could shed some more light?
