Mardy Boy : Photograph

A couple of years ago I began collecting old photographs. Initially, it was cartes de visites – those formal Victorian portraits and family shots. Partly, the interest was the beautiful studio advertising designs on the  back, but also because I was fascinated by these faces from the past. I published a short booklet called Copies May Be Had that includes some of the better examples, and which featured in a earlier post (The Carte de Visite)

More recently, I’ve been finding post-1900 photographs that people took on their own cameras: informal, family snapshots that pretty much everyone has sitting in a drawer, or end up in second-hand shops after people die. I’ll be posting these and the cartes de visites, on a new WordPress blog called Little Eye
